Denia Hasic is a budding cinematographer living and working in Brooklyn, NY with a keen interest in feminist, queer and activist-oriented projects. Since graduating from Boston University’s film program in 2013, she has shot numerous narrative and documentary shorts, music videos and experimental film pieces. Her first short film Catharsis screened at NYC’s NewFest and the LA Indie Film Fest, and her first documentary short Life & Sand was the official selection at the New Filmmakers New York festival and won the Jury Award at the Long Beach International Film Festival and the Jury Award at the North Beach American Film Festival. Her cinematography blends elements of realism with surrealism, breathing a stylized imagery into honest personal stories. She works to challenge the normal tropes of cinematic male gaze through both her unconventional form and rejection of set hierarchy, contextualizing the notion of a “female” or “other” gaze.
